(Persia Digest) – A trip by Tehran’s mayor to Vienna to take part in the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Bridge for Cities meeting has prompted the simultaneous objections of the terrorist MEK group and the US Ambassador to Germany.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that Tehran Mayor, Pirouz Hanachi, arrived in Vienna at the head of a delegation on 2 September on the invitation of his counterpart Michael Ludwig, and Director General of UNIDO, Li Yong. He participated at the roundtable for mayors and met separately with Vienna’s mayor to discuss joint projects.
The Mayor of Vienna said at the meeting: “Despite unilateral US sanctions against Iran, there is much opportunity and interest in extending relations and urban development cooperation between Vienna and Tehran.”
Hanachi continued his trip to Berlin on the invitation of its mayor. His successful Vienna trip raised the anger of the MEK terrorist group who started a hashtag on social media to protest his presence in Germany. Interestingly, the US Ambassador to Berlin also joined them in asking the German government to sanction Tehran’s Mayor.
The Jerusalem Post also wrote: “US Ambassador, Richard Grenell, has said that Hanachi is affiliated to the IRGC and must be placed on the US and EU sanctions list.”
Chairman of the Planning and Budget Committee of Tehran City Council, Majid Farahani, tweeted: “The US Ambassador’s demand to sanction Tehran’s Mayor as a non-governmental manager is unprecedented in history and a clear indication of the lawlessness, turmoil, and distress of those who claim to defend freedom in the world and consider the voice of the Iranian nation to be a stone thrown at the bottle of life of their bullying.”
Tehran’s Mayor arrived in Berlin yesterday, Friday, and intends to meet with his counterpart in the city to discuss the participation of German companies, investor, and economic actors in development projects in Tehran.
