(Persia Digest) – Ta’zieh passion play narrates the story of what came to pass in Karbala. The plays are held across Iran on the first days of the month of Muharram to commemorate the events of Ashura Day 14 centuries ago.
The art of Ta’zieh has changed in the passage of time, but it is still among the most ancient Iranian-Islamic arts.
All the provinces in Iran, from the most northerly ones in Khorasan and Azarbaijan, to the southernmost parts in Sistan and Ahvaz, and from the expanse of the desert to the foothills of Zagros and Alborz mountains, from the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf, Ta’zieh is played during the month of Muharram.
