(Persia Digest) – The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has announced that banking ties between Iran and Russia have been established through the Russian electronic financial messaging system and SEPAM used by the CBI without the use of SWIFT.

Abdol-Nasser Hemmati pointed to Iran’s recent membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), saying: “The facility provided by the EAEU for its members to trade is a great help in expanding economic ties between them.”

He added: “During meetings between the leaders of the IR of Iran and Russia, promoting banking ties between the two countries was also discussed as a top agenda. The two discussed the gradual drop in the price of the dollar in international transactions due to US policies and highlighted the use of national currencies by the two countries.”
