(Persia Digest) – The first Iranian woman athlete to take part in weightlifting competitions in the 55kgs category in Thailand wrapped up her work on Thursday with a total of 158kgs and two national records.

Poupak Basami lifted 64kgs in a single prong. She was also successful in lifting 69kgs and 72kgs in her next two attempts. Basami took sixth place in the 55kgs category in Group D among eight athletes and promoted the national record by 2kgs.

In her first double-prong attempt, she lifted 82kgs successfully, followed by 86gks, but was unable to lift the 91kgs weight and remained in 5th rank in the group. But she improved the national record by 1kg in the double-prong lift.

Overall, Basami ranked 6th in the single and double prong lifts with 158kgs.

Iran’s second athlete, Abrisham Arjomandkhah will be competing in the 71kgs category in Group B on 23 September.

The World Weightlifting Championships is being held in Thailand from 18-27 September 2019.

This is the first time Iranian women weightlifters are participating in the competitions.
