(Persia Digest) – An interesting story about the famous Italian actress Sophia Loren and her letter to Iranian poet Ahmadreza Ahmadi has recently been published in the media in Iran.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that Fereydoun Majlessi, author, translator, and former Iranian diplomat writes about the letter in his article: “When I was visiting Ahmadreza Ahmadi a few days ago, I found him on top form. He said he was delighted to have received a letter from Sophia Loren, even though half a century late! I asked him about it, and he answered I was a great admirer of Sophia Loren in my youth and was fascinated by her. I was even envious of her late husband, Carlo Ponti.”
Majlessi continues: “A number of friends were aware of his admiration for Sophia. One of them, who is now a prominent actor in the Iranian cinema, had a business trip to Italy recently and met with Sophia Loren. As the conversation got going, he tells her about her semi-centennial poet admirer back home. Upon hearing the romantic story of her long-time fan, the great appreciative actress writes a friendly letter to Ahmadreza Ahmadi who is now delighted to have received it, while bemoaning its late arrival by fifty years!”
Ahmadreza Ahmadi is a prominent 79-year old Iranian poet, screenwriter, and painter. He was nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2009. Some of his works have been translated into French, Italian, German, Arabic, Japanese, etc.
