(Persia Digest) – Atigh Square (or Kohne Square, now known as Imam Ali Square) is a historic attraction in Isfahan city center, with four main spaces including the main square building, the entrance of the Grand Mosque, the underpasses, and the car park.
Atigh Square connects Isfahan’s Grand Mosque to the Harouniyeh Mansion on one side; on the other side, it connects the school, copper beaters’ caravanserai, and Isfahan Grand Bazaar.
The construction of this place dates back to the Seljuk era; it was very prosperous in the past. However, after building Naghsh-e Jahan Square, the shopkeepers gradually left Atigh Square and it lost its previous affluence.
These days, Atigh Square has been renovated and is being visited by tourists as a valuable historical site. A market is also established in it and it is still one of the attractions of Isfahan.
