(Persia Digest) – Iran exports USD 570MM in medicinal herbs per year.
In charge of the of Medicinal Plants Project of the Ministry of Agriculture of Iran, Hossein Zeinali places medicinal plant production at 400 million tons per year, adding: “An estimated two million people work in the planting and harvesting industry of medicinal plants in Iran.”
He said Iran’s main products are Saffron, black caraway seeds, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, shallots, and medicinal rose. He added: “Around 70 percent of Iran’s saffron exports are produced in Khorasan Razavi Province at a value of 400 million dollars annually.”
According to him, Iran ranks first in exports of saffron, medicinal rose, asafoetida, galbanum, astragalus, tragacanth, and black caraway seeds.
