Caracas issues Interpol red alert over Mayle's arrest – Breaking News

The government of Nicolás Maduro rejects the “worrying decision” of the Argentine judiciary, which issued an international arrest warrant for the Venezuelan president, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello and thirty other people for crimes against humanity, in the context of the repression of the opposition after the disputed presidential elections of July 28. In parallel, the pro-Chavista Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced that he had issued a red notice to Interpol for the arrest of Argentine President Milei for the “theft” of the Venezuelan plane that was seized in 2022 in Buenos Aires, because according to the United States it was subject to sanctions, and was transferred to Miami thanks to the green light from Milei's CEO.

The arrest warrant issued by the Argentine justice system is a “vile act of vengeance by the government of Milei aimed at undermining our sovereignty and delegitimizing the constitutional and democratic process,” the foreign ministry in Caracas said in a statement. It also said the decision “lacks foundation and constitutes a violation of the jurisdiction of states and the immunities enjoyed by the president and senior officials.”

The ruling by the Argentine judges grants a request filed on September 17 by representatives of the Argentine Forum for the Defense of Democracy (FAD) and extends to all officials involved in human rights violations denounced by secret testimonies and reports by the United Nations and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH).
