Australia is heading towards reopening thanks to a new iPhone app
Australia is getting closer to reopening international borders, expected by Christmas, with a new iPhone app that allows you to read a QR code for vaccination certificates. The app called VDS-NC Checker, developed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, allows you to check international vaccination certificates. As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, it uses a technology promoted by the International Civil Aviation Organization called a digital visual seal and can scan vaccination and test certificates.
The description of the app states that it is “developed in accordance with the World Health Organization’s Guide to Secure Digital Vaccination Certificates. If the QR code is real, the app displays the most important certificate information, including the holder’s biodata and Covid-19 vaccinations. Initial submission of the application can certify certificates issued by Australia, but future updates will also be able to authenticate certificates issued by other countries.”
