More than 700 children from seven independent Spanish communities have so far tested positive for coronavirus after being in Mallorca between June 12-20, but data is still developing. El Pais newspaper reported that another 3,000 young people are in quarantine in Madrid after returning from their trips to the island.
The authorities of the Balearic Islands have identified several sources of infection: parties were organized on boats and in nine hotels in the Llucmajor beach area, while a file for non-compliance with anti-Covid measures was opened against the organizers of the Reggaeton concert held at the bullring in Palma de Mallorca. Every year, about 12,000 students from different regions choose Mallorca as a destination to celebrate their graduation. Excursions are organized by various specialized agencies, such as “Tu Fin de Curso” or “Xcape”, well-known among students, who annually sell all-inclusive packages – including pool and boat parties – for less than 400 euros.
Meanwhile, the average cumulative infection with the Covid virus recorded in Spain in the last 14 days rose slightly for the third consecutive day: now 95.03 cases per 100,000 residents, according to the latest update by the Ministry of Health. Several cases related to the Mallorca outbreak have yet to be counted.
