Wimbledon begins: Kerber, Struve, Ooty and other Germans in battle

Angelique Kerber and eight other German tennis pros face off on day one of the classic turf match at Wimbledon. She will face 2018 winner Kristina Mladenovic of France in her first round match on Monday. The match will be played as the third match at Stadium 1.

Previously, in the same place, Jan-Lennard Struve was an obvious outsider in front of world number seven Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.

In the only German duel in the first round, Oscar Otti, who is in 32nd place, was the frontrunner against Petr Gojowczyk. On Monday, Daniel Altmaier will also play against Mikael Ymir of Sweden and qualifier Maximilian Martier against Jazz Biden of Slovenia.

In the women’s competition, there are three more matches with German participation: Tamara Korbach plays against Britain’s Heather Watson, Tatjana Maria has to deal with qualified Australian Astra Sharma, Jules Niemeyer meets with Wang Shiyu from China.
