(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 – Republican Representative Michael McCaul, the top representative of the old big party on the Foreign Affairs Committee, accused the Taliban on Fox News of not allowing Afghans and Americans to leave from Mazar-i-Sharif airport, contrary to their promises.
According to him, there are planes that have tried to take off from the airport “in the past two days”. He said that “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given the green light to these flights and that the Taliban will not allow them to leave,” noting that they “want something in return.”
An NGO confirmed to the BBC that it had people waiting to board one of these flights. Marina Legery, founder and CEO of the NGO Ascend Athletics, said the number of planes waiting to depart could be more than six, and she heard there could be about 1,000 people ready to board. But Taliban spokesmen denied this, saying it was propaganda and that many passengers in fact did not have the documents required to leave. (Dealing).
