University of Turin, first graduates of the Medicine and Surgery course

More than 600 students from 50 different countries are enrolled. The first degree session in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Turin, an international degree course taught entirely in English, took place at the University San Luigi Gonzaga Education Center in Orbasano. Undergraduates discussed their thesis before the committee composed of Prof. Stefano Giona, Rector of the University of Turin, Prof. Umberto Riccardi, Director of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. David Limbo, Head of Degree Course, and Profs. Massimo Terzolo and Federico Possolino, Directors of the Departments of the University of Polo San Luigi Gonzaga.

Record numbers

The University Degree course in Medicine and Surgery, which has been active since the academic year 2017-2018, welcomes about 100 students each year, 70 EU and non-EU students residing in Italy and 30 non-EU students not residing in Italy. The number of entrance examination candidates has almost doubled in the past year, from 692 applications in 2021 to 1,134 in 2022.

It is therefore an international degree course aimed specifically at students interested in research and scientific collaboration. Moreover, the proximity to the teaching, research and hospital structures favors communication between students and faculty and the development of the patient-doctor relationship already from the first year through professional training.

the goal

The aim of the degree program is to train clinicians with a solid background in biomedicine, psychology and general culture, and to have a careful interest in treatment, prevention and health promotion, so as to consider patients as a whole of body and psyche acting in a specific social context.
