Migrant crossings do not stop along the Atlantic Ocean route, from the African coasts to the coasts of the Spanish Canary Islands archipelago. A boat with 81 people on board landed yesterday evening in the sports port of San Miguel de Abona on the island of Tenerife, while searches for the 48 missing persons in the Kaiqui shipwreck took place during the night between Friday and Saturday, as the Emergency Coordination Service reported that at least 9 people had died and been recovered. 27 survivors rescued.
Among the 81 migrants who arrived at the port of Tenerife yesterday evening, with the help of Red Cross volunteers and healthcare services upon disembarkation, one of them was taken to hospital with serious symptoms of hypothermia.
Meanwhile, air and sea rescue forces have resumed their search for more than 48 migrants who disappeared at sea after the ship carrying more than 84 people sank at 3 a.m. on Saturday, while a patrol boat was rescuing them around 3 a.m. 7 km from the coast of El Hierro Island.
Two of the 27 survivors, who were evacuated by helicopter, were discharged to hospital, while autopsies were performed on the nine bodies recovered from the sea, including the body of a teenager, whose bodies will be buried between today and tomorrow in Red Sea cemeteries. Valverde and Frontera on the Canary Island, according to the local prefecture.
