AMD Ryzen 5000 Series Threadripper May Be Delayed Until Next Year

The rumor mill: If the rumors are to be believed, the release of AMD’s Zen3 Threadripper processor for flagship desktops has been delayed until 2021. Previous dates have been leaks and rumors, as well as news about workstation variants, which are already supposed to be the next year.

Famous leaker @greymon55 said on Twitter today that the codename “Chagall” may have been postponed See you next year. Chagall refers to the codename associated with consumer variants of AMD’s Threadripper 5000 series processors that leaked earlier this year. So far, these rumors have indicated its release in November 2021.

After the Taiwanese manufacturer Gigabyte was hit by a gang of RansomEXX ransomware in early August, it leaked some Gigabyte information about future devices, including the Threadripper 5990X processor. According to this leak, it has 64 cores and 128 threads. It will also have 256MB of L3 cache, 64 PCIe 4.0 slots, and 4-channel DDR-3200 memory. Those base numbers are the same as AMD’s current Threadripper 3990X, but leaked information about the 5000 Series Threadrippers says nothing about clock speeds, let alone actual performance.

Towards the end of August, two Pro-model 5000 Threadrippers were spotted on a distributed computer network, revealing some details about them that were consistent with other leaks. The network listed it as Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX and Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5945WX. The former had a 64 core and 128 thread processor, while the latter had 12 cores and 24 threads. These are workstation models as opposed to mainstream HEDT processors and are scheduled for release in 2022.
