Google is constantly working to make Chrome a better browser. If your efforts are focused on usability, there is an important part that seeks to secure this proposition in several aspects.

With the presence of biometric systems on smartphones, new areas are opened to be explored for this component. Google seems to be aware of this and is testing a novelty that can be used directly in anonymous tabs, for added security.

Although it was created to leave no trace of usage on devices, anonymous tabs do not provide any security for users. It is accessible to all, which is not always expected.

To provide additional protection, Google will now work on a new feature for its browser. You want to restrict access to anonymous tabs, forcing them to be blocked by biometric authentication procedures.

This novelty is already present in the current Canary version of Chrome, which must be activated with a simple flag in this Google browser. With the name “Enable device reauthentication for private browsing”, it must be enabled for a new option to be available in the Privacy and Security area.

From now on, Chrome will ask users to authenticate every time they try to access anonymous tabs. This authentication can be done by fingerprint or facial recognition.

At the moment, as we said, it is limited to the Canary version of Chrome, that is, to the first tests. Interestingly, it can already be explored on iOS because the activation option is not accessible in Chrome. Maybe everything will change in the next update.

Since it’s not a drastic change to Chrome, this news brings more protection to this browser than Google. It should be a feature that should be developed and made available to everyone in the near future, thus providing additional security.
