HSV saved their slim chance of promotion and celebrated with an easy home win. Saturday evening there was a 3-0 (2-0) against Karlsruhe.
Although the cup semi-final against SC Freiburg will take place on Tuesday (8.45 pm), HSV coach Tim Walter has called up almost all the regular players. Only Ludovit Reiss was missing, ailing Sonny Keitel was initially only off the bench.
As always, HSV took the lead without creating any obvious opportunities initially. But KSC’s poor defense revealed some coordination problems early on – and Hamburger used them for the first time in the 23rd minute. Gata Bakery crossed the ball for Robert Glatzel, who scored his 18th goal of the season unchallenged.

“He was compelling from first minute to last,” unemployed HSV goalkeeper Daniel Hoyer Fernandez praised in an interview with NDR. Captain Sebastian Schönlau saw it similarly: “We’ve been working on moving forward from the start.”
Dream goal by defender Voskovic
Shortly after 1-0, veteran Daniel Gordon came into Karlsruhe strong against Glatzel. Referee Patrick Alt did not hesitate and gave yellow and red. There was also a free kick from an interesting position. Kittel was not there when central defender Mario Voskovic grabbed the ball and put it into the corner (32′).
A 2-0 lead, and one more man on the field: The match was as good as HSV’s win. The question now was: to provide energy for Tuesday’s cup match or to provide something to about 25,000 spectators?
HSV throttles speed, but it clearly dominates
Hamburgers are no longer going at the highest pace, but they still almost permanently limit KSC. However, the end result was now missing in the proceedings. The game extended into the second half with a manageable entertainment value. The people of Baden made little attempt to do anything to turn the tide. Josha Wajnomann finally removed the small doubts about Hamburg’s victory with his goal from 16 meters (68).
HSV earned three points in a relaxed fashion and never completely missed the promotion. Depending on the result of Sunday’s matches, the difference to second place is at least five points. At the same time, North Germany gained self-confidence in a cup duel with FC Freiburg. “We want to take the momentum out of today,” Hoyer Fernandez said. But the Bundesliga club will be a tougher opponent on Tuesday than KSC on Super Saturday.
