Lottery for Cuban, Venezuelan, Nicaraguan and Haitian immigrants
Faced with the largest immigration and humanitarian crisis on the American continent, the White House has chosen the lottery. Venezuelans, as well as Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans, will be able to enter a lottery system that, in principle, allows them to apply for a visa to enter, reside, and work in the United States, as long as they find someone for the first time. To take care of their arrival and initial maintenance.
According to official data, the United States has already received 1.5 million applications in six months, but the cap is 30,000 visas per month, even though the Department of Homeland Security receives nearly 12,000 applications per day from Americans seeking sponsorship for Cubans, Nicaraguans, Venezuelans, and Haitians. So far 100,000 legal immigrants have arrived in the United States through this system, while 380,000 applications are in standby from Cubans, 120,000 from Venezuelans and more than 20,000 from Nicaraguans.
The lottery decision mimics the popular permanent visa lottery system, which awards 50,000 passes annually to citizens of countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. The Border Patrol arrested an average of 4,400 migrants per day this month.
