Microsoft completes acquisition of Nuance Communications

After nearly a year spent by countless competition regulators, the acquisition of Nuance Communications was finally completed yesterday. The purchase represented one of the largest expenses in the company’s history. The deal was subject to regulatory scrutiny around the world. Since Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Nuance in April 2021.

Nuance, Microsoft’s commitment to artificial intelligence

Nuance is an artificial intelligence company that specializes in speech recognition and related software and other services.

The truth is that Nuance is well known in healthcare, where Microsoft will have a large presence now, but it’s also in more places. Nuance is in other key sectors Microsoft aspires to, including financial services, retail, and communications. Microsoft plans to use Nuance technology to create more “Vertical Enhanced Artificial Intelligence”.

“Customers will benefit from improved consumer, patient, clinician, and employee experiences, and ultimately improved productivity and financial performance,” Says a press release from Microsoft on March 4 about the conclusion of the deal.

Mark Benjamin will remain CEO of Nuance, and will report directly to Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Microsoft Cloud + AI Group. Once again, Microsoft chooses the same solution as LinkedIn or GitHub, which operate as independent entities but integrate with Microsoft services.

Microsoft today also announced that Microsoft and Nuance are integrating their Nuance call center solutions with the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service product to create a secure, AI-powered call center offering.
