Sydney (AFP) – World tennis number one Ashley surprised everyone by announcing on Wednesday in a video message that she was retiring at the age of 25.

“Today is a difficult and emotional day for me because I am announcing my retirement from tennis,” he said on Australian Instagram.

“I’m so happy, I’m so ready, as a person, I know now in my heart that this is the right decision,” he said with tears to his former twin partner Casey Delloqua.

Number one in the world since 2019, he has won three Grand Slam singles titles, the Roland-Carros in 2019, then Wimbledon in 2021 and the Australian Open this year.

In January, he became the first local champion in 44 years to win the Australian Open, joining the exclusive club of Grand Slam crowns on three different surfaces.

“I am so thankful for all that tennis has given me, it has given me my dreams and so much more,” the champion added.

“But I know the time has come for me to step away and pursue other dreams and reduce fraud.”

“Thank you for being an incredible ambassador for this sport and for women around the world,” the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tweeted. “We will miss you so much, Ash”.

Party, one of the most respected and loved players on the tour, quickly became the best with his dazzling pieces, precise services and flawless forehand.

She was engaged to longtime boyfriend Gary Kissick last year and has always been on the court when he played.
