Ericsson’s $6.2 billion purchase of Vonage has been delayed by a US review.

The Swedish telecoms equipment maker agreed to buy cloud telecoms company Vonage in an all-cash deal in November, as part of its drive to expand its 5G portfolio.

But Ericsson has since faced a bribery scandal in Iraq that has led the US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to open investigations against the company.

Many analysts had estimated that the investigations could delay or even derail the agreement’s approval by US regulators.

The deal is currently under review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), an interagency panel that reviews foreign investments for potential national security risks.

An Ericsson spokesperson said: “As the committee’s review is ongoing, we cannot comment on the details.”

Ericsson also said that the two companies work closely with CFIUS and that the agreement meets all other foreign and US regulatory approval requirements. This transaction is one of the largest in Ericsson’s history.
