IBM develops an AI that predicts the progression of Parkinson’s in each patient

IBM and Michael J. Fox Foundation researchers have developed a model that can predict the course of Parkinson’s disease. That is, the symptoms appear when, in any form, as the disease progresses.

Essential information for treating patients to help control symptoms as the disease progresses.

They use AI to improve the quality of life of Parkinson’s patients

This is not the first time we have seen how the potential of AI is used in Parkinson’s patients, but each initiative has a different perspective that contributes to major improvements in improving patients’ quality of life.

For example, the Imperial College team of engineers uses AI and wearables to monitor and treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Now IBM’s IA Proposes the same purpose, but anticipates symptoms and predicts how the disease will develop.

Our goal is to use artificial intelligence to assist in patient management and clinical trial design. These goals are important because, despite Parkinson’s disease, patients experience a variety of distinct motor and non-motor symptoms.

Also, Michael J. for this. There was collaboration with the Fox Foundation, which made it possible to use an anonymous database with the information of more than 1,400 individuals.

The database acted as an input for the machine learning approach, helping to identify complex symptoms and improvement patterns. […] Although many previous studies have focused on classifying Parkinson’s disease using only basic information, our method is based on seven years of patient data.

Thanks to this, they have developed an AI that grouped the symptoms of the disease and established patterns to predict the evolution of the disease, taking into account that it does not progress uniformly in all patients.
