Japanese technology group Sony and the Danish parent company of toys maker Lego have announced a €1 billion joint investment in US software giant Epic Games. Sony and Kirkbi, the parent company of Lego, together want to invest $2 billion (€1.84 billion) in the video game developer, the three companies announced on Monday. Epic Games celebrates global success with video games like Fortnite.

The statement said that Sony and Kirkby, with their €1 billion investment, wanted to support Epic Games’ “vision” to build a reversal and continue its growth. Both companies contribute $1 billion each. Sony is already a shareholder in Epic Games.

According to the company, the valuation of Epic Games has risen to $31.5 billion as a result of investments from Sony and Kirkbi. Epic Games makes the popular video game Fortnite available for download for free. However, the game still generates billions in sales because users buy virtual products like clothes for their characters online.
