(Boursier.com) – Atari Announces that the Atari VCS and accessories will be available for sale starting June 15 in the United States, via its distribution networks and online retail sites Best Buy, GameStop, and Micro Center as well as the official Atari VCS website. Each retailer will offer customized marketing on launch day.
Accessories developed in partnership with PowerA include a classic wireless controller, based on the original Atari 2600 console, as well as a modern styled console. Both controllers feature voice feedback, LED lighting, USB charging, and wireless Bluetooth compatibility with Atari VCS and most computers and mobile devices.
In order to satisfy a wide audience, Atari VCS continues to increase its offering of both free and paid content: over a dozen titles from popular independent game developers (Boulder Dash Deluxe, Danger Scavenger, Guntech, Jetboard Joust, Missile Command: Recharged, Sir Lovelot, Something Alien Ate, Tailgunner ). New titles will be launched in the Atari VCS Store throughout the year; Free access to 100 classic arcade games and Atari 2600, fully optimized for use with the classic wireless console, and innovative effects that breathe new life into this old game; Free access to Antstream Arcade, the popular game streaming platform, which provides on-demand access to the world’s largest selection of licensed vintage titles.
In addition to standalone original content and retro games, Atari VCS provides access to the most popular streaming services, directly from the Atari VCS dashboard – or through the Atari VCS Companion app available in the App Store and Google Play. The system has a built-in Chrome browser and Google Workspace applications. Atari VCS owners can also stream their favorite movies and TV shows using their favorite streaming media services, including 4K HDR content, as well as listen to music, shop and access social networks.
The Atari VCS platform supports 4K resolution, HDR content, 60 frames per second, built-in and expandable storage options, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, as well as USB 3.0 support. For those keen on customization and configuration, the optional PC mode also allows for Windows or Linux to be installed as an alternative operating system, turning the Atari VCS into a complete and powerful mini PC.
Atari VCS Onyx Base systems start at $299.99, while Atari VCS Black Walnut and Onyx All-In systems include the Atari VCS Classic Joystick (available separately for $59.99) and the Atari VCS. Modern console ($59.99) for $399.99. All prices are special launch prices and may change in the future.
