As Toyota and Glickenhaus open the Hypercar class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, Peugeot is preparing its hardware behind the scenes.
Almost two years into the pregnancy before the big day. At the beginning of July, Peugeot lifted the veil on the 9X8, the machine takes advantage of the freedoms offered by the new Hypercar regulations by dispensing with the rear spoiler. According to Olivier Jansoni, Technical Director of the project, “The regulations allow us to have one adjustable aerodynamic element, without specifying that this should be the rear wing. Our calculations and simulations showed that we could perform well without it.” The massive publisher should make up for it. The twin-turbo V6 opens at 90 degrees with a displacement of 2.6 liters and 680 hp on the bench since April. the The hybrid system, connected to the front wheels, is currently being assembled. The 800V battery is supplied by Saft.

the The first rolls of 9 x 8 will take place in December 2021, for the World Endurance Championships to debut the following spring. On the track, the captain will be Loïc Duval, the only previous winner the Lion has entered (victory in 2013, with Audi). Unlike the 908 era, there was no name buzzing in the workforce. Peugeot has chosen drivers who have earned their endurance streaks in special teams (Jean-Eric Verney, Gustavo Menezes, Paul di Resta), or real hopes of the discipline, such as Mikel Jensen and former Haas driver Kevin Magnussen.
