The Xiaomi 12 Pro camera is one of the main selling points of the new flagship. But in the DxOMark test, the cell phone could not convince here.
- Xiaomi 12 Pro was tested by DxOMark image benchmark.
- The results were far below expectations.
- In comparison, that was only enough for 14th place.
Xiaomi recently launched its new flagship model Xiaomi 12. The quality of the camera was especially important for the manufacturer, which was also shown at the official presentation with the Xiaomi 12 Pro. However, it now appears that the camera has obvious weaknesses.
Tested by photography professionals from DxOMark Xiaomi 12 Pro was able to collect only 131 points. This phone puts one point behind the Google Pixel 6 – the base model, not the Pro version – in 14th place. However, according to experts, the problems are not due to hardware.
Excellent hardware, mediocre software?
Above all, post-processing by the camera software does not seem to be able to keep up with the technical capabilities of the hardware. For example, DxOMark criticizes strong image noise in dark areas of the image, distortions at object edges, and HDR image processing.
Zoom is also disappointing. The mobile here offers a 50MP telephoto camera. However, a direct comparison with the Ultra model of the predecessor Mi 11 shows that the cell phone takes good photos at medium distances, but takes worse and worse photos at long distances. The sharpness and level of detail are particularly disappointing here.
However, it must be said that 14th place is not a bad result. Only one does not fulfill the expectations and promises of the manufacturer. It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will improve this with an update – also regarding the Xiaomi 12 Ultra “camera monster”.
