(ANSA) – CAPE TOWN, April 8 – A particularly aggressive and intelligent wild monkey that terrorized residents and tourists, and stole food from them, was killed on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, and was lethal injection after he began working with a whole gang of fellow men.
Cape Town municipal authorities assert that the male of the captured alpha baboons have been euthanized without suffering, in the hope that the well-organized gang he assembled will also stop the violent raids.
Baboons started “gangs” like many of their mates, feeding on garbage bins, but often entering residents’ gardens and homes to terrorize them. All anti-baboon ploys failed to stop the wily and aggressive monkey, who at the same time arrested a well-organized gang of baboons alienated from a community living in the natural habitat of the Cape.
