Two activists from The Last Generation, a climate change protest group, smeared oil Monet at the Barberini Museum in Potsdam, in Germany, by throwing mashed potatoes at him. The group posted on Twitter a video of the attack on ‘Il Pagliaio’, one of the masterpieces of the French Impressionist, calling on politicians to take effective action to curb climate change. The extent of any damage has not yet been assessed. Museum spokeswoman Caroline Strans said. A few days ago, a similar measure, but with tomato sauce, was carried out against Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” in London.

Monet’s painting belongs to the collection of billionaire benefactor and billionaire Hasso Plattner and is on display in the permanent exhibition of the Barberini Museum. The activists had easy access to the work not protected by glass and simply had to climb over a kind of hoop that was thirty centimeters from the ground that marked the perimeter to which visitors could not go. The event was attended by two other people who filmed the video and then posted it on social media.
