Apple has announced an extension of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro repair program in the United Arab Emirates, due to the sound problems customers are facing there.

This announcement comes five months after the Big Tech giant announced a reform program in the United States 9To5Mac. The program will cover all iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro units manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.

Camel Reports indicate that the aforementioned audio issue affects a certain component of the phones’ receiver units, according to an analysis by Apple.

As a result, the phone will not beep on the receiver when users receive calls.

However, this sound issue does not affect iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Either way, any eligible device is entitled to a free repair from Apple or any company authorized service provider.

Apple has not explicitly stated how many devices are affected by this issue.

How is the repair program going?

An apple The repair software process for affected iPhone 12s and iPhone 12 Pro is very simple.

Users only need to bring their device to an Apple Authorized Service Provider near them. There, the technician will check the phone to determine if it qualifies for free repair under certain conditions.

However, if any kind of damage prevents doing the free repair (eg a cracked screen), you’ll need to fix that before it tackles the sound issue.

A quick look at Apple iPhone 12 audio problems

This isn’t the first time the iPhone 12 has had major audio issues. In the past year, some devices encountered a problem that greatly affected hearing aid users.

Many users have reported unexpected noises being made through hearing aids or other sound-producing devices. These people went online (mostly from Reddit and Twitter) to express their concerns.

According to the official Apple Support DocumentsAudio issues can range from garbled sounds to choppy/ choppy sound or even static loud sound.

Apple’s official fix advised users to upgrade their devices to iOS 14.2.1 or later. People also have the option to completely restart their iPhone, or mess with their audio and bluetooth settings.

Should you just upgrade to iPhone 13?

Upgrading to iPhone 13 due to iPhone 12 sound issues may seem like a good option to some. But do you have to?

It all depends on the current situation. If your iPhone 12 isn’t already experiencing the aforementioned problem, there’s no good reason to upgrade – unless you really have to.

Another reason is related to eligibility. As mentioned earlier, only iPhone 12s and 12 Pro manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021 are covered. If your device does not fall into the eligibility category, you will not get a free repair.
