In iOS as in Android, the app can protect your chat backups in two ways. You will be able to generate a 64-digit encryption key to lock your discussions stored on iCloud and Google Drive.
This encryption key can be stored locally or in a password manager of your choice. You can also choose to create a password to save this encryption key in a safe place online, developed specifically for this use by WhatsApp.
If you choose the latter, you will not be able to access the key without entering your password. If you don’t remember it, your encryption key will be permanently lost, and your WhatsApp chat backup doesn’t know your password.
