(Persia Digest) – The Iranian Foreign Minister pointed to Trump’s tweet about sanctioning Iran for world peace, saying: “It is not the first time a warmonger claims he is waging war for ‘world peace’.”

Javad Zarif tweeted: “Tantrums & CAPPED TWEETS won't change the fact that the world is sick & tired of US unilateralism. Stopping US trade and killing 100K US jobs is fine with us, but the world won't follow impulsive tweeted diktats. Just ask EU, Russia, China & dozens of our other trading partners.”

In another tweet, Zarif said: “Reminder: International relations is not a beauty pageant, with tired clichés about a desire for WORLD PEACE. And it is not the first time that a warmonger claims he is waging war for "world peace".”

► Zarif response to reimposition of US sanctions

Persia Digest reports that after signing an executive order to reimpose the first round of sanctions against Iran, Donald Trump tweeted: “The Iran sanctions have officially been cast. These are the most biting sanctions ever imposed, and in November they ratchet up to yet another level. Anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States. I am asking for WORLD PEACE, nothing less!”

As reported by Persia Digest, the United States reimposed its sanctions on Iran following a withdrawal from the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal which limited Iran’s nuclear activities in return for the lifting of sanctions. But Trump signed the order for the unilateral US exit from the international deal on 8 May 2018, when the IAEA watchdog had confirmed Iran’s compliance with the deal and its commitments more than ten times.
