(Persia Digest) – Sareh Javanmardi is an Iranian woman athlete who has received the most votes in a poll conducted by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) website to become Athlete of the Month for May 2018.
The poll ran for a week starting 2 June and Javanmardi faced a tough competition from a Ukrainian weightlifter. But she managed to take first place with 41 percent of the votes and the Ukrainian athlete was runner up with 38 percent of the votes.
By winning two gold medals for the P2 10m air pistol and P4 50m rifle individual competitions at the ISSF shooting events in South Korea, Javanmardi was able to become the Athlete of the Month for May. She was also able to win over her male counterparts in the P4 50m competitions.
Other athletes in the poll were from Belgium in track and field, Canada in Judo, and Brazil in equestrian.
Persia Digest reported that Sareh Javanmardi, member of the Iranian women’s shooting team, has won two gold medals at the Rio Paralympics and a bronze medal at the London Paralympics. She is the first Iranian woman medal winner at the Paralympics to make Iranians proud.
