(Persia Digest) – The IRGC has refuted claims made by certain US media outlets that its navy speedboats attempted to seize a British oil tanker.
Following reports by some Western media quoting sources at the US Department of Defense (USDOD) that attempts by five Iranian speedboats to seize a British oil tanker in the Persian Gulf were foiled by HMS Montrose, the Public Relations Office of IRGC Navy's Fifth Division issued a statement refuting the claim, and announced: “No encounters were made over the past 24 hours with foreign vessels, including British ships.”
The statement also underlines: “The IRGC can promptly and decisively seize any foreign vessels if orders are issued.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that the seizure of an Iranian oil tanker by the British Navy last week has provoked much criticism by Iranian authorities. Yesterday, the Iranian President warned the UK that they have been the initiators of insecurity at sea and will have to face the consequences of their move in the future.”
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also labeled the move as piracy and demanded the immediate release of the oil tanker.
The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran also warned that this move by the British will not go unanswered.
