(Persia Digest) – The withdrawal of US from the multilateral nuclear deal was met with widespread reactions in Iran.
Persia Digest reports that the Iranian president immediately responded to Trump's speech and tweeted: “The menace of a deal breaker is removed.”
Iran Foreign Minister Zarif also twitted that after examining whether remaining JCPOA participants can ensure its full benefits for Iran, the outcome will detrimental our response.
A group of Iran Majlis [parliament] members set fire to the US flag and also the JCPOA deal symbolically at the beginning of today's meeting in response to the deal breaking of the US.
Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Parliament of Iran, said: “Due to Europe’s contacts, we will give a few more weeks for the revival of the nuclear deal. This shows that Iran does not seek adventurous and reactive behavior.”
He also added: “Trump does not have the rational ability to solve problems, and the language of force is more effective for such a person. If Europe, Russia and China do not fill this international gap, Iran will bring them to reason with its nuclear actions. They should know that, under such circumstances, Iran has no obligation to go back to its former stance on the nuclear issue.”
Major General Jafari, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, responded to the withdrawal of the United States: “We take Trump’s withdrawal from JCPOA as a good omen. This is not new and it will not have a decisive influence in any area that is detriment to our national interests. Once again, it was proven that US is not trustworthy to negotiate and interact with.”
He also stated: “It is clear that Europeans cannot decide independently between Iran and the United States and are dependent on the United States, and the fate of JCPOA is clear.”
Commander-in-Chief of the Iran Army also stated that the greatest damage to JCPOA was legitimizing and negotiating with the United States, and the biggest benefit that has come to pass is the proof of their lack of commitment. “Thank God that the United States has pulled out of JCPOA,” he added.
Major General Bagheri, Chief of Staff for the Armed Forces of Iran also stated: “JCPOA was not desirable from the very beginning for the Iranian nation, but Iran accepted it with dignity and honor to deliver an ultimatum to the world. But the US did not commit to its own signature on the deal.”
