(Persia Digest) – Turkmenistan intends to transit certain goods through Iran’s Amir-Abad Port to the Persian Gulf by rail and then onto India.
An agreement has been signed between the representative of the Turkmenistan government and Siavash Rezvani, Director of Amir-Abad Port. A 30-thousand ton consignment of chemical fertilizers is due to be transported from the Caspian Sea to Amir-Abad Port and then on to India.

Rezvani had announced a 32 percent increase in imports to the Port earlier for the first six months of the current year on the Iranian calendar as compared to a similar period last year.
The Deputy Director of Iran Railways also announced a 50 percent increase in the volume of goods transported on the railway network in the first six months of the current year on the Iranian calendar as compared to a similar period last year.

PD reports that Iran has a special strategic location for trade and transit with a number of important international corridors passing through it. In the south, Iran has access to free waters, in the north it has access to Eurasian countries, in the east to Central Asia, and to the west its border with Turkey connects it to the EU.
