(Persia Digest) – A new round of bilateral talks between Iran and the UK have begun in Tehran today, Saturday, with the arrival of Alistair Burt, UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for West Asia and North Africa.
Bilateral trade ties and financial and monetary arrangements between the two countries despite unilateral US sanctions following the US exit from the JCPOA will be the focus of talks.
Both parties will also discuss the latest regional developments. Talks will be headed by Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Political Deputy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the Iranian side.
Alistair Burt is the first high-ranking official to visit Tehran from the UK after the US exit from the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal. This coincides with EU efforts to safeguard the JCPOA agreement with Iran.
Burt stated at the outset: “For as long as Iran remains committed to its obligations under the JCPOA, we will also uphold our side. Because we believe that this the best way to guarantee a safe, peaceful future in the region.”
