(Persia Digest) – Iran will be implementing the Omid Cineplex plan in 16 cities to build 53 new cinema theaters.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that most cinema theaters in Iran are located in the capital Tehran. This is why the Cinema Organization of Iran has decided to implement the new plan in other cities in line with the slogan “Iran is not Tehran” for fair play.
There are no official statistics on the number of cinema theaters in Iran. Some show 550 cinemas, in which case there will be one theater available for every 150 thousand citizens while international standards are one theater per 10 thousand citizens.
Based on the statistics of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in 2013, only 60 out of 1148 cities in Tehran had cinema theaters, meaning an estimated 1088 cities were deprived. The largest number is in Tehran with 106 cinemas.
