Tehran-Shirgah tourist train begins to run
Two train runs have begun between Tehran and Shirgah to develop rail tourism and travel to the beautiful sites of northern Iran. The Tehran-Savadkouh train had already become operational on this route. Following its popularity with passengers, a second train between Tehran and Shirgah has also begun to run. The Tehran-Savadkouh train operates on Thursdays and the Tehran-Shirgah train operates on Fridays.
Chinese finance for Shiraz-Bushehr railways
At the signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement between Iran and China to build the provincial capitals of Shiraz (Fars Province) to Bushehr (Bushehr Province) railway line, the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development announced: “In addition to connecting Shiraz to Bushehr, our other rail projects include a line from Shiraz to Gol-Gohar (Kerman Province), from Kerman to Bandar Abbas (Hormozgan Province), and from Kerman to Chahbahar (Sistan & Baluchistan Province). On completion, a heavy road traffic load can be transferred on to the railway lines.”
Start of Astara-Moscow cargo train
The Director for the Office of International Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways has announced trilateral negotiations between Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia to launch the Astara-Moscow cargo train.
Pakistanis return to Iran by train
After nearly twelve years, Iran and Pakistan have decided to get back on the railway tracks and begin running passenger trains between the two neighboring countries as from September 2018.
Iran welcomes foreign investors in tourism

Euros 3 billion invested in Iran by Russia
Two agreements have been signed between Iranian Railways, the Russian Export Center, and the Export Insurance Agency of Russia (EXIAR), according to which the Russians will invest 3 billion euros over five years for the joint production of cars, locomotives, and the equipment needed for Iran’s rail transport network.
Iran-S Korea Euros 720MM Contract
The largest trilateral contract has been signed between Iran and the Iran-S Korea consortium (Iranian IRICO and S Korean Rotem) for wagon production. Based on this contract worth Euros 720MM, 450 wagons will be manufactured as a joint venture within the next six and a half years. The first of such wagons will be delivered to Iran in a year and a half.
Seven nationals ride on train in Iran
This morning saw the running of the 22nd tourism train in Tehran. As announced by the railways, this tourism train named “The Heart of Iran” made its second trip from Tehran to take European, American, and Asian tourists sightseeing around the country.
