(Persia Digest) – “Modern Iranian Art and Architecture in the Shadow of the Classical Persian Past” is the title of a conference being hosted by the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester on 17-18 May 2018 through the efforts of Dr Aida Foroutan. It will be attended by scholars and researchers of Persian/Iranian art and architecture from Iran and elsewhere.

These include figures such as Professor Alan Williams, Professor Robert Hillerbrand FBA, Babak Etminani, Professor Abbas Daneshvari, and Hamid Kashmir-Shekan among others. The conference can be joined on the internet.

The Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University has been active in this field over the past century. The present conference is supported by a research grant from the British Institute of Persian Studies and the Iran Heritage Foundation. It has invited researchers and experts in the fields of arts and architecture of contemporary Iran and ancient Persia to come together at the historic John Rylands library in Deansgate in central Manchester.

Art history and architecture will be discussed in the two separate categories of ancient Persian arts and architecture and modern Iranian arts and architecture.
