(Persia Digest) – An Iranian tanker has been involved in a collusion with a Chinese ship in the East China Sea. The lives of the 32 Iranian crew are feared lost.
The 30 Iranian and two Bangladeshi crew members aboard the Iranian tanker are missing, feared dead. Kasra Nouri, PR Manager of the National Iranian Oil Company, announced: “The tanker belonged to the Iranian fleet and was carrying condensate. The ship and its cargo are covered by a credible insurance company.”
As announced by Nouri, the tanker was carrying its cargo for a South Korean company that had leased it.
The cargo was worth an estimated USD 60MM, the equivalent of one million barrels of oil.
As announced by the Chinese Ministry of Transport, all 32 crew members on the tanker have disappeared. The 21 crew members of the Chinese ship have all been saved. The Chinese Ministry has so far not given any explanations why the entire Iranian crew are feared dead while all the Chinese crew were saved.
The Chinese maritime authorities have dispatched eight search and rescue ships to the scene. South Korea has also sent a ship and one helicopter to the area to help find the missing crew.
