(Persia Digest) – The Historic Castle of Dezak Fort is situated 35kms from Shahr-e Kurd. It is one of the important historic sites of Chahar Mahal & Bakhtiari Province, in southwester Iran.
The Castle of Dezak Fort was erected in 1907 on the orders of Lotfali Khan Bakhtiari who was one the khans of the Bakhtiari tribe. It has been inspired by the architecture and ornaments of European castles from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Fort is on two floors. Initially, it was used as a military fortification. But new designs and ornaments were added to it in later years, transforming it into a residential castle. These include rock carvings, stunning stucco in the dining room, mirror works, wooden mosaic doors decorated with gems, ornamental mantle pieces, wood-framed ceilings, mosaic tile frames and stunning brickworks. The most beautiful rooms in the building are its dining room and mirror room on the top floor.
It is said that figures such as Vahid Dastguerdi, Ali-Akbar Dehkhoda, Farrokhi-Yazdi, Dr Mohammad Mossadegh, and Malek Alshoara Bahar were all guests of the Bakhtiari khan at the Castle after Iran’s constitutional revolution.
