(Persia Digest) – Iran and Switzerland have signed a document for Switzerland to keep an interest section for Iran in Saudi Arabia.
The Swiss government also announced that it will keep an interest section for Saudi Arabia in Tehran.
The interest section document for the Islamic Republic of Iran was signed by the Persian Gulf Chief of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Swiss Ambassador to Tehran.
The Iranian interest section office will be opened in Jeddah in the near future with the presence of Iranian diplomats once the protocol is completed.
Following the incidents of the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and Consulate General in Mashhad, the Saudi government announced in 2015 that it will cut ties with Iran and called on Iran’s diplomatic mission to leave its soil within 48 hours. The two countries have had no relations since and the relevant authorities have only discussed the annual Haj pilgrimage.
It must be noted that the Swiss Embassy also has a US interest section in Tehran.
