Two oil tankers attacked in the Oman Sea

(Persia Digest) – Local sources in Oman have reported hearing two consecutive explosions in the Sea of Oman.

According to initial reports by local media in Oman, two tankers exporting crude oil from the Persian Gulf have been attacked in the Oman Sea.

Pakistani local authorities have also reported the sound of explosions and added that two oil tankers radioed for help from the Sea of Oman littoral states moments later.

The explosions take place at a time when the Japanese Prime Minister, Abe Shinzo, arrived in Iran yesterday for talks to reduce tensions in the region.

Four other tankers were also attacked in the coastal waters of the UAE a few weeks ago as tensions escalated between the US and Iran. Saudi Arabia and the UAE claimed in a report to the UN Security Council that a “state actor” was involved.
