(Persia Digest) – Iran’s foreign minister dismissed a recent report by Reuters on the alleged removal of oil sales from Europe’s Special-Purpose Vehicle (SPV) saying oil trade is the axis of Iran-Europe financial channel.

SPV is the new EU mechanism to facilitate payments for Iranian exports after the new wave of US sanctions against the country.

In a recent report, Reuters had allegedly quoted “diplomats” as saying that the mechanism which should have been legally in place by Nov. 4, ahead of the next phase of the US sanctions against Iran, “will not be operational until early next year.”

Reacting to the claim, Zarif said: “If no money is deposited in an account for our oil sales, it is clear that no money will be available for trade. On the other hand, oil forms the main part of Iran’s exports, therefore, it seems that certain propaganda and fabrications are being formed to disappoint people.”

“Europeans believe that the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is necessary for their security, therefore, they have to pay the cost to safeguard their own security and implement the JCPOA,” Zarif said.

Criticizing EU’s “over-caution”, Zarif said: “The Europeans want to benefit from the nuclear deal without paying the costs to remove their security concerns and this is not possible.”

He hoped that under the present circumstances the Europeans will understand the realities and “we will hear good news in the coming days to this end as we have received positive initial reports on registration of the financial mechanism and we hope this will happen soon,” Zarif added.

He stressed that a “practical guarantee” is highly important for the next phase.

Reacting to a recent tweet by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Iran’s missile tests, Zarif said: “As in the past, Pompeo’s statement on Iranian missile tests are basically wrong.”

He advised the US officials to “read Resolution 2231 once more.”

Turning to the latest violations against protesters in France, Zarif said: “Iran believes that it is everyone’s right to protest in a peaceful way but any protests should be made within the framework of the law. Therefore, what we say in our own country, we say to others too.”

Zarif said that the French authorities should counter the protesters in a peaceful manner.
