(Persia Digest) – The 71th Cannes Film Festival opened in France last night with the screening of the film "Everybody Knows" directed by Asghar Farhadi.
Farhadi, along with Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Ricardo Darin, the cast of the film, walked the red carpet last night.
The Cannes Film Festival usually opens with an English or French film, and the last time the festival opened with a non-English or non-French film, was the screening of the 2004 film "Bad Education" directed by Pedro Almodóvar.
Asghar Farhadi said on the red carpet that he had attended the festival before, but he was very pleased that the festival opened with his film. He said about the film’s actors that he had learned more about being organized and love of work from them than acting.
Penelope Cruz responded to the question that how he could read her thoughts: "There is no need for that because Farhadi reads the thoughts of his actors.”
“He is very sensitive, understands everything and you cannot lie to him. He is very strict about his work, but I'm happy to have worked with him,” she said about working with Asghar Farhadi.
The Cannes Film Festival, which opened on 8 May, will continue for 11 days, and the closing ceremony will be held on Saturday, 19 May.
This year, the Iranian director Jafar Panahi also attends the festival with the movie “Three Faces”, and Golshifteh Farahani, the Iranian actress features in the film “Girls of the Suns”.
