(Persia Digest) – Iran’s spokesperson for the Guardian Council has announced that a plan to establish a Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts in Iran in the near future has been approved by the Council.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that the bill to establish the ministry was approved by MPs on 28 November 2018. According to Iran’s constitution, parliamentary ratifications require approval by the Guardian Council for implementation and the Council has approved the setup of the new ministry.
The Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization of Iran has been the custodian of the tourism industry to date under the supervision of the President who appoints the head of the organization.
The Iranian government now hopes that by changing the organization into a ministry it can attract more tourists and be in a better position to conserve the cultural heritage of Iran and promote its handicrafts.
