(Persia Digest) – Asia, South America, Africa, and the Middle East are record holders for attracting the most tourists since 1990.
ISNA semi-official news agency reports that a total of 1.32 billion trips by tourists have taken place globally in 2017, showing a threefold increase as compared to the 439.5 million trips taken in 1990.
The increasing popularity of attractions in Asia, South America, Africa, and the Middle East account for this amazing growth in the 21st century. For instance, the Asia-Pacific region was host to 56.2 million tourists in 1990. Whereas, according to statistics, this figure has now risen to 323.7 million people in 2017.
Following Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Albania, Kyrgyzstan, and Vietnam, Iran takes seventh place in attracting more tourists since 1990 to date. Today, 32.9 times more tourists travel to Iran as compared to 28 years ago.
Georgia, the UAE, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Malaysia, Oman, Iceland, Belarus, Cuba, Peru, Croatia, South Africa, and Greece take the following places respectively in increasing the number of tourists visiting their country.
Nevertheless, it must be mentioned that Iran has faced a drop in the number of tourists coming here, 0.3 million in numbers. The US and Russia have also seen a drop in tourism since 2015, with 3.6 and 4.4 million fewer visitors each respectively. This decrease has been mainly due to war, terrorism, and internal unrests.
