Saudi Arabia has decided to take this stance against Iran as the Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, said yesterday: “Iran is seeking the best relations with its neighbors. Under the new circumstances, it is looking to reform relations with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.”

Rouhani had said: “If a neighbor like Saudi Arabia gave up its obstinacies and expressed a desire for relations, we must resolve differences and establish friendships.”

Senior Iranian officials have called for the settlement of disputes with Saudi Arabia through negotiation and dialogue several times now, but Saudi Arabia has not shown an interest.
