(Persia Digest) – At a meeting with the President and his cabinet, the Supreme Leader of Iran spoke about foreign policy issues and emphasized on growing relations with Iran’s neighbors.
He also spoke about European countries, saying: “There are no barriers to continued talks with the EU. But we must not get our hopes high on issues such as the JCPOA and economic issues.”
He criticized Europe's ill-judged behavior in matters such as sanctions and the JCPOA, reiterating: “We must take a shy look at their promises and seriously guard the progress of talks.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said the JCPOA is a means to preserve national interests, adding: “The JCPOA is not a target, but a means to an end. Naturally, if we come to the conclusion that it is not possible to maintain our national interests by this means, we will put it aside.”
He said: “Europeans must understand from the actions of Iranian government officials that the IR of Iran’s response will be appropriate with their initiatives.”
The Supreme Leader stressed that no talks will be carried out with the US, adding: “This was the result of negotiations with former US officials, who at least kept up appearances. How can we negotiate with the current insolent administration who has pulled the knife on Iranians? Therefore, no negotiations on any levels will take place with the Americans.”
The Leader of the Revolution said that talks with Iran is on the agenda of every US administration, and reminded: “They want to claim that we even brought the Islamic Republic of Iran to the negotiating table; so no negotiations will take place.”
