(Persia Digest) - The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) has presented its membership certificate to an Iranian mathematics professor for the first time.

Dr Siamak Yasemi, a Professor of the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Sciences of Tehran University is the first Iranian mathematician and the second Tehran University faculty member to be granted TWAS membership. The ceremony was held at the 14th TWAS General Conference and 28th General Meeting in Trieste, Italy, from 27 to 29 November 2018.

Formerly, Professor Seyed Ali-Akbar Mousavi-Movahedi of Tehran University had also received TWAS membership in the chemistry group.

Currently, TWAS has 14 Iranian members out of 1181. Out of the 14, four are in physics, four in chemistry, four in medicine, one in engineering, and one in agriculture.
